I’m Joel, a CMU junior from California, pursuing a degree in computer science.

I’ve been leaning towards the more theoretical aspects of CS after taking many exciting classes in computational complexity, cryptography, differential privacy, and more. I still enjoy populating my schedule with a mixture of courses from other domains of CS though. I also like to spend time trying to figure out the best way to teach what I know to others.

I enjoy reading science fiction, particularly books with interesting world-building like The Sparrow or Seveneves, although as my spare time dwindles I find myself swapping out my kindle for audiobooks and podcasts like Hidden Brain.

I also like hiking, with my dog when possible, and playing board and card games. I attempt to cook enough that I won’t be completely helpless as an adult, including but not limited to a quarantine sourdough habit.
